Nicole Sensabaugh really enjoys business and the entire financial aspect of business. Her education is in accounting, and she started her first business when she was just 21. At the age of 25, she sold that company and became the CFO of a large manufacturing firm in Portland, OR. She ran that company for 10 years before deciding it was time to get out of the corporate scene and do something more enjoyable and fulfilling.
Nicole struggled at first with what she should do once she left the corporate world. She no longer wanted to be in the corporate world, but still wanted to be a part of the business world. One of the main things that she learned in big business was that many small business owners aren’t necessarily business men and women. Many are artisans or technicians. While they know their job well, they don’t really understand the financial side of the business. Nicole decided that her skills would be best utilized by helping small business owners understand how to run their businesses and use their financials to grow.
Before long, Sensabaugh bookkeeping was born! Nicole started her bookkeeping business to help small businesses understand their financials and teach small business owners how to run and grow their businesses even in difficult economic times.
What do you like most about what you do?
My favorite thing about this job is seeing business owners that I have worked with actually start to grow their businesses and really succeed. It is so fun when I see a client who started out with one or two employees and worked out of their garage. And now, after a couple of years, they own their own building, equipment, and have over 50 employees. When I see that, I know that what I do makes a difference in their lives. For most of my clients I am as much a business consultant as I am their bookkeeper.
Why did you join WOW and what is the most rewarding or valuable aspect of being a WOW member?
I joined WOW because I was new to the area and really wanted to meet other women who were business owners. I have made some wonderful friends through WOW and many are now my clients. The most valuable aspect of WOW for me is the way that women support each other. It is hard to be a female business owner and it is amazing when you have the support of other women who understand what you are going through. Everything about WOW is meant to lift women up, not put them down- and that is rare these days.
Who could be an ideal potential client for you?
The ideal client for me would be one who wants to streamline their accounting system and learn more about how they can grow their business to its full potential. I work with clients of all sizes, from 1 or 2 employees to over 500.
What do you like to do for fun?
I’m an artist at heart. I own GhostWolf Designs, a glass fusing studio at my home in Newberg. When I am not there I love to hike, camp, ski and travel. We travel out of the country at least once or twice a year. I love to visit new cultures and explore new places.
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
My favorite place to vacation is Europe. All of the countries are so close together that you can see many different cultures in one trip.
