John Peterson & Jeremi Carroll are quite the innovative couple with an amazing vision of growing highly nutritious and delicious food. We are so fortunate that they are right in our backyard here in Yamhill County! Their background is mostly in the restaurant industry where they have both worked as servers. This background helps them understand how restaurants are run, giving them an insight to what they are looking for from their produce suppliers. Neither of them have any farming background, which have served them both positively and negatively along their journey. In addition to growing delicious food, they are passionate about helping folks create a space that serves our immediate and extended family as a place for relaxation and enjoyment of nature.
Why did you select the business you are in?
We decided to start small farming after spending several seasons tending a small mixed garden at our suburban rental. We did a lot of reading and documentary watching that lead us to the idea of starting an alternative type of food production system. Developing this type of business touches on many issues that we care about from healthy food to social justice to caring for our natural environment.
What do you like most about what you do?
We love the community and enjoy growing and sharing food with others. We also love watching nature move and change over the seasons. Indeed, if you build it, nature will come.
Why did you join WOW and what is the most rewarding or valuable aspect of being a WOW member?
We joined WOW as an opportunity to network within our local community. We did host a fun evening gathering two years ago but have not taken full advantage of the opportunity WOW provides.
Who could be an ideal potential client for you?
Our potential clients include chefs, caterers, wineries, B&B's, apothecaries, herbalists and interested members of the local area.
What do you like to do for fun?
We love to host dinner parties and summer family gatherings. We also enjoy an occasional night out in Portland and usually try and take one good vacation each winter.
What are five things you cannot live without?
Our business would not survive without water, access to diverse seeds/plants, pollinators, sunshine- and wine!
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
With so many amazing places and things to see, we try not to go too many places twice.
